Sidney Crosby had his second Hat Trick in a week, scoring all three of the Pittsburgh Penguins’ goals in their victory over the Atlanta Thrashers. A big game for the captain, sealing the Pens eighth consecutive victory, tying him for Goal Scoring Leader in the NHL, and putting him on top of the points race.

Only a little more than six minutes into the game, Atlanta took advantage of a Power Play opportunity, putting in the first goal of the game. However, about a minute later, Sid the Kid tied things up with his first goal of the night. Then, four minutes into the second period, Crosby put in his second goal of the game, and his 20th of the season. The Hat Trick came only seconds after the 30 minute mark of the game.

Atlanta closed the gap a little with a goal late in the second period. However, it wasn’t enough for the Thrashers to come back. They only had five shots in the third period.

Marc Andre Fleury put up his seventh consecutive win; it’s hard to believe this is the same goalie who struggled greatly at the start of this season. He made 20 saves against the Thrashers.

The Pens will try to keep the streak burning this Saturday, Dec 4, as they take on the Columbus Blue Jackets. The puck will drop at 7:00 P.M. ET.

It was another successful game for the Pittsburgh Penguins, taking their fifth consecutive game with a win to the Ottawa Senators. Both of their goals may have come from Power Play opportunities, but at least they pulled out the Win. They are now trailing the Philadelphia Flyers by only three points.

The Senators got off to a good start, netting the first goal of the game in the first period. Unfortunately for them, that’d be the last goal they’d have this game. Half way through the second period, Evgeni Malkin tied things up with his Power Play goal; Tyler Kennedy and Sidney Crosby had assists on that. Then, five minutes into the third period, Alex Goligoski scored the game winner, and his fifth goal of the season.

Marc Andre Fleury snagged, yet, another win. A big game with 43 saves, and only a single goal allowed. Fleury has been playing great the past couple of weeks.

Hopefully, the Pens can keep their streak alive when they take on the Calgary Flames Today, at 1:00 P.M. ET.

The Pittsburgh Penguins looked like they had stolen this victory in the final two minutes of the game. Unfortunately, the New York Rangers tied things up less than 30 seconds later. While in Overtime, New York was able to capitalize on a game winner, giving Pittsburgh only a single point.

The Penguins out shot the Rangers 12-5 in the first period, but neither team was able to net anything. About half way through the second period, the Rangers put in the first goal of the game. It was looking like New York might take this thing with a 1-0 victory, but with under three minutes left in the game, Chris Kunitz tied things up, followed by Matt Cooke’s goal only seconds later.

In a matter of seconds, this game went from what looked like a Ranger victory, to what appeared to be a Pens victory. Unfortunately, that’s when New York tied things up again, with a Short Handed goal, sending the game into Extra Time. The Pens only got a single shot off in Overtime, but with 1:22 remaining, their opponents put in the game winner.

Marc Andre Fleury was back in the net again, for his third consecutive game, coming off two victories over the weekend. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to get the win this time around. Fleury had 22 saves against the Rangers, giving up three goals.

The Penguins take on the Vancouver Canucks this Wednesday, November 17, at 7:00 P.M. ET.

After a scoreless first period, the Ducks started off the scoring with a goal in the seventh minute. Within the next seven minutes, they managed to make it a three goal lead.
The Pittsburgh Penguins definitely struggled against the Dallas Stars, trailing them for nearly the entire game. The most surprising thing about this game was, despite both teams accumulating a total of 66 Penalty Minutes, neither managed to put in a Power Play goal. Brent Johnson, who has been on fire so far this season, earned his first loss in Regular Time.

Just under four minutes into the game, Dallas started off the scoring, followed by a second goal only about four minutes later. Tyler Kennedy put Pittsburgh up on the board during the sixth minute of the second period, but the Stars answered right back about four minutes later. Only about a minute after that, the Stars were awarded a Penalty Shot, due to a hook on a breakaway, which they also managed to put into the back of the net.

With a 4-1 lead, there was still one more period left for the Penguins to catch up. Five minutes into the period, Dallas made it 5-1. Matt Cooke managed to give the Pens one more goal before the game ended, but it didn’t make a difference.

Johnson had his worse game of the season, thus far. He managed to make 24 saves, but gave up five goals. Hopefully, this was just a fluke game and he can rebound from it.

The Pens will take on the Anaheim Ducks this Friday, November 5, at 10:00 P.M. ET.

To be fair, the Pittsburgh Penguins only held the lead for less than 20 minutes, but at one point, they did have a two goal advantage over the Tampa Bay Lightning. The first period was where the majority of goals took place, despite being the lowest shooting period. Regardless, Pittsburgh still leads the Atlantic Division by a point.

Tampa Bay put in their opening goal less than three minutes into the game. However, an even more impressive feat was the Penguins’ two Short Handed goals in the two minutes following. The first came from Craig Adams, making it his first goal of the season. The second shortie was put in by Matt Cooke, who also assisted the first goal. During the 12th minute, Pascal Dupuis made it 3-1 with his second goal of the season. Adams had an assist in both goals, in addition to the one he put in.

Before the period could come to an end, the Lightning shortened the Pens’ lead with another goal. Little did anyone know, this would also spark the Lightning’s comeback for a win in the remaining two periods. Tampa Bay tied the game up with a Power Play in the second period, and nearly took the lead with a Penalty Shot, but couldn’t put it in. It didn’t matter though, because they took the lead in the third period, followed by an Empty Netter to seal the win.

Marc Andre Fleury accrued his fourth loss for the season, bringing his record to 1-4. He had 26 saves, giving up four of the Pens’ five allowed goals. It’s a tough call to bench your starting goalie, who you won a Stanley Cup with only two years prior, and replace him with a goalie that is nearly 10 years older. However, Brent Johnson has a reverse record of 4-1, with that only loss coming in Overtime; it might be time to give Johnson some more games.

The Pens will have back to back games this weekend, taking on the Philadelphia Flyers on Friday and the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday. Friday’s game will begin at 7:00 P.M. ET.

It looked like the Pittsburgh Penguins were going to chalk up their first Win of the season, up 2-1 with less than three minutes remaining in the game. Unfortunately, two goals from the Montreal Canadiens, within 30 seconds of each other, changed the outcome of the game. Pittsburgh had several Power Play opportunities, but couldn’t capitalize on a goal during any of them.

Montreal started off the scoring in this game with their late, first period goal. However, less than a minute into the second period, Evgeni Malkin got his first goal of the season, with an assist from Sidney Crosby. With a little over eleven minutes remaining in the game, Mark Letestu gave the Penguins the lead. The lead that quickly disappeared between 17:48 and 18:12.

Marc Andre Fleury was having a great game until the final three minutes. What would have been one goal and the win turned into three goals and a loss. Fleury made 24 saves against the Canadiens.

The Penguins’ next match will be a very important one against their Division Rival, the New Jersey Devils. It will take place this Monday, October 11th, at 4:00 P.M. ET.

The Pittsburgh Penguins knew, before they started this series, that the Montreal Canadiens were not a team to underestimate. This eighth seed team dropped to a 1-3 record against the Top Ranked Washington Capitals, only to come back and finish the first seed off. So far, in this series, neither team has won two consecutive games, and if the pattern continues, the Penguins will come out on top; however, this is the Pens last chance to keep their playoff hopes alive.

A little over a minute into this game, Montreal started off the scoring, taking the early lead. Then, in the seventh minute, Sidney Crosby put in his first goal of the series, giving him six for the post season. Then, in the fifth minute of the second period, Kris Letang took advantage of a Power Play, giving the Penguins the lead.

Pittsburgh didn’t hold the lead for very long, because in the tenth minute, Montreal tied the score up again, followed by a leading goal in the 13th minute. The Pens entered the third period down by a goal, still with a chance to pull out the win. The Canadiens fourth goal halfway through the third period gave the Pens a bit more than they could handle. With less than a minute and a half remaining, Bill Guerin made one final effort to pull out this win, grabbing his fourth goal of the Post Season. However, it just wasn’t enough.

The Pens out shot the Habs 37-25, but had trouble getting more than three goals past the Canadien goal tender. Marc Andre Fleury had 21 saves, but it wasn’t enough to hold off their opponents. Fleury really needs to be on his “A” game in Game 7, otherwise his team’s hopes of back-to-back championships will no longer be an option.

Game 7, and the conclusion to this back and forth series, will take place this Wednesday, May 12, at 7:00 P.M. ET. Due to the Pens higher seeding, the game will come back to Pittsburgh.

The Pittsburgh Penguins almost pulled off both Wins in Montreal, which would have sent both teams back to Pittsburgh for a possible, Final game. Now, the series is tied, but the Pens will get a chance to take the lead again, on their Home Ice. At that point, they would return to Montreal, to hopefully clinch the series.

The Canadiens started off the scoring with a goal in the opening two and half minutes, but Max Talbot answered back less than a minute later with his second of the Post Season. About two minutes after that, Chris Kunitz gave the Penguins the lead with his Power Play goal, with an assist coming from Sidney Crosby; this was Crosby first point in the last three games.

After that second Pittsburgh goal, the game remained scoreless up until the second minute of the third period, when Montreal tied things up again. It wouldn’t have been so bad if the Habs put a third goal in a little over a minute later, giving them the lead once again. There was still plenty of time in the game, but Pittsburgh just couldn’t tie things up again.

Marc Andre Fleury held the Habs to a single goal throughout the first two periods, but then gave up the back-to-back goals in the third that gave the Canadiens the victory. Fleury had 22 saves throughout the game. The Pens, once again, out-shot their opponent, but just couldn’t put many past their goalie.

Game 5 will take place this Saturday, May 8, at 7:00 P.M. ET.
