It was another successful game for the Pittsburgh Penguins, taking their fifth consecutive game with a win to the Ottawa Senators. Both of their goals may have come from Power Play opportunities, but at least they pulled out the Win. They are now trailing the Philadelphia Flyers by only three points.

The Senators got off to a good start, netting the first goal of the game in the first period. Unfortunately for them, that’d be the last goal they’d have this game. Half way through the second period, Evgeni Malkin tied things up with his Power Play goal; Tyler Kennedy and Sidney Crosby had assists on that. Then, five minutes into the third period, Alex Goligoski scored the game winner, and his fifth goal of the season.

Marc Andre Fleury snagged, yet, another win. A big game with 43 saves, and only a single goal allowed. Fleury has been playing great the past couple of weeks.

Hopefully, the Pens can keep their streak alive when they take on the Calgary Flames Today, at 1:00 P.M. ET.

The Pittsburgh Penguins seem to be getting their act together. They had a slow few games, but now they have won their last three games with a goal differential of 13-5. The Pens are currently tied for the leading spot in the Atlantic Division.

Less than nine minutes into the game, Mark Letestu took advantage of a Power Play, putting in his fourth goal of the season. About five minutes later, Sidney Crosby netted his fourth goal of the season, too, also during a Power Play. Before the period could come to an end, Evgeni Malkin made it 3-0.

Early in the second period, Ottawa took advantage of their own Power Play, getting their first goal. It took Pascal Dupuis less than five minutes to cancel out that goal with his first goal of the season. Seconds later, Kris Letang scored the Penguins’ final goal, making the score 5-1. The Senators managed to put one more goal in during the third period, but that was the end of their rebuttal.

Another win for Brent Johnson, bringing his season record to 4-0. It’s getting tougher and tougher for Marc Andre Fleury to prove why he deserves to be the starting goalie. Johnson had 32 saves against the Senators, bringing his Save Percentage to 95%.

The Pens next game will be this Thursday, October 21, at 8:00 P.M. ET. They will be taking on the Nashville Predators, in Nashville.

One down…three to go! Despite falling behind by three goals in the first half of the game, the Pittsburgh Penguins kept themselves together and ended up taking the victory with an Overtime goal. After the previous game had gone into a Third Overtime, both of these teams were pretty determined to end the game in Regular Time. If Pittsburgh had lost this game, they would have still had another shot in Game 7, but that game would be do or die.

Five minutes into the game, Ottawa put in their first goal. Then, in the opening minutes of the second period, they took a two goal lead. Nearly half way through the game, there was a third goal for the Senators, putting Pittsburgh in a pretty tough position. A goal that would have put Pittsburgh on the board was disallowed, despite appearing to go past the line.

About 11 minutes into the second period, Matt Cooke scored off Jordan Staal’s first assist of the Post Season. The score remained 1-3 up until the seventh minute of the third period, when Bill Guerin netted a Power Play goal to make it only a single goal difference. Then, with under eight minutes remaining, Cooke scored his second goal of the game, tying the score and sending the game into Overtime.

Nearly ten minutes into Overtime, neither team had been able to put anything in. Ottawa had taken four shots, and Pittsburgh had taken three. Pascal Dupuis came skating in to take a pass from Staal, smashing it into the back of the net.

Marc Andre Fleury was a little shaky in the first half of the game, but he held Ottawa scoreless for the second portion of the game, including Overtime. Fleury made a total of 28 saves, chalking up another Playoff Win.

Pittsburgh now waits to see who their opponent will be in Round 2. The Flyers (7) are the only other team in the Eastern Conference to advance, at the moment. If the Capitals (1) advance, Pittsburgh (4) will either be playing the Boston Bruins (6) or Buffalo Sabres (3). The Bruins are currently up a game in the series, with one more left to advance.

First Round, Playoff Hockey doesn’t get much more exciting than this! The Pittsburgh Penguins and Ottawa Senators battling in Game 5, with Ottawa on the brink of elimination; a three goal comeback, for the lead, countered with a tying goal, to send the game into Overtime; two scoreless Overtimes, totaling 40 minutes. Unfortunately, the Senators did avoid elimination with a goal in the seventh minute of the Third Overtime.

Ottawa took a fairly early lead with two goals between the 10th and 12th minute of the first period. Luckily, Kris Letang had a Power Play goal in the final minutes of the period to send the Penguins into intermission down by a single goal. Then, a little over a full period later, Chris Kunitz tied the score up with his second goal of the Post Season, and Sidney Crosby’s eighth assist.

Crosby went on to grab his fifth goal of the Post Season in the third period, giving Pittsburgh the lead. With less than ten minutes left until the Pens clinched the first round, Ottawa tied the score up, once again. A total of 30 shots were exchanged between the two teams in the first two Overtimes, but nobody managed to put anything in. Then, in the seventh minute of the third Overtime, after about 107 minutes had been played, the Senators put one past Marc Andre Fleury to send the series to Game 6.

Despite taking the loss, Fleury held off 40 shots throughout the game, and three full, scoreless periods. The defending Stanley Cup Champion Goalie has had some ups and downs this season, but he put on a pretty impressive performance in Game 5.

Game 6 will take place this Saturday, April 24, at 7:00 P.M. ET. If the Pens take it, they clinch the series; if not, they get one more shot, back in Pittsburgh.

Sidney Crosby grabbed four more points in the Pittsburgh Penguins’ win over the Ottawa Senators, putting them one game away from clinching the first round. The Penguins are in a pretty great position here, winning both road games and heading back home for, what could be, their final game of the series. Pittsburgh grabbed a big lead against Ottawa in Game 4, and then went back and forth throughout the second period.

Evgeni Malkin started off the scoring with another Power Play goal, giving him his fourth goal of the Playoffs. Crosby followed up with his first goal of the game, early in the second period, giving Pittsburgh the two goal lead. Matt Cooke used that momentum and put in a third one 12 seconds later. However, Crosby was not satisfied with only three goals, so he netted another one in the sixth minute, to give Pittsburgh a nice 4-0 lead over Ottawa.

Finally, in the seventh minute of the second period, the Senators put one in, followed by a second goal a few minutes later. Luckily, the Penguins were not phased by this comeback attempt, because Max Talbot sank a Short Handed goal a few minutes after. Ottawa responded with a Power Play goal, but before the period could come to an end, Chris Kunitz opened the gap right back up.

Ottawa tried to make a third period comeback, starting with a Power Play goal in the seventh minute, but Jordan Staal knocked them back down. The Selke finalist gave Pittsburgh a Power Play goal of their own, closing out the scoring at 7-4.

Despite giving up four goals, Marc Andre Fleury held it strong for the Penguins to grab the win. Fleury shut out Ottawa in the first period, when the Pens took the four goal lead. Overall, he ended up with 26 saves, and a third Playoff Win.

The possible series finale will take place this Thursday, April 22, at 7:00 P.M. ET.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have pulled ahead in the series, taking the first game in Ottawa. After a disappointing opening game in Pittsburgh, the Penguins have pulled out two wins, and appear to be gaining steam. Sidney Crosby continues to lead the Post Season with seven points, from two goals and five assists. Meaning, of the ten goals the Pens have scored in the Post Season, Crosby has had a hand in all but three.

Pittsburgh wasted no time, grabbing a goal during the opening 1:17; Alexei Ponikarovsky raced down the ice, slammed on the breaks to lose the defenseman, and smashed a shot past the goalie. Pittsburgh held the one goal lead up until the second period, when Ottawa tied the game up early. A few minutes later, Evgeni Malkin put in his third goal of the Post Season, giving the Penguins the lead again. With under a minute left in the second period, Crosby made it a two goal lead with his Power Play goal.

Bill Guerin continued to extend the gap with his first Post Season goal during the fourth minute of the third period. Ottawa managed to put one more in during a Power Play, but they just couldn’t make up for the damage that had been caused.

Marc Andre Fleury didn’t receive too many shots in the game, but the 20 that he saved were very influential. Keeping the Senators Shut Out through the first period, he helped his team gain the momentum to go on their scoring frenzy.

Game 4, and the last one before returning to Pittsburgh, will take place this Tuesday, April 20, at 7:00 P.M. ET. If they can pull out a Win, then they’ll have the opportunity to take the series in Game 5.

After a close Game 1 that resulted in a loss for the Pittsburgh Penguins, they were determined to take Game 2 from the Ottawa Senators. The Penguins defense limited the Senators to only 20 shots in the game, compared to their 31. Sidney Crosby had a goal and an assist in this game, giving him a hand in every Penguins Post Season goal to date, except one; he leads the NHL in Post Season points.

It was very disheartening seeing Ottawa score in the opening 18 seconds of the game. Luckily, it didn’t seem to phase the Penguins, who tied up the score about eight minutes later. Crosby had the tying goal off an assist from Chris Kunitz. The game remained tied all the way up into the final minutes of the third period, when Kris Letang scored the winning goal for the Pens.

Marc Andre Fleury really stepped up his performance in Game 2, making 19 saves and holding the Senators off for the rest of the game after their opening goal. The goalie can be one of the most disheartened when a team scores so quickly, but Fleury kept his head in the game and pulled out the win.

The two teams travel to Ottawa for Game 3, which will take place this Sunday, April 18, at 6:30 P.M. CT.

The Pittsburgh Penguins put up a tough fight against the Ottawa Senators in Game 1, but just couldn’t pull out the win. This game came down to the wire, with Pittsburgh bringing themselves within a goal during the final minutes of the game; Evgeni Malkin netted two goals and Sidney Crosby grabbed three assists.

Malkin put in the Penguins first Post Season goal during a Power Play in the third minute of the game. Unfortunately, Ottawa answered back a couple of minutes later, followed by another goal in the 14th minute of the period, giving them the lead. A little over a minute into the second period, the Senators took advantage of a Power Play opportunity.

Power Play goals were a big factor in this game. At about the half way point in the game, Malkin sank his second goal in, during another 4v5 situation, but Ottawa widened the gap again with their second Power Play goal of the game. Craig Adams made it 3-4 during the fifth minute of the third period, but the Senators made it 3-5 about four minutes later.

Alex Goligoski looked like he was going to take the first step in the Pens effort to tie the game, with his goal in the 17th minute. Unfortunately, the team just couldn’t put another goal in.

Marc Andre Fleury had a tough time with the Senators, only grabbing 19 saves and giving up five goals. Hopefully, the young goaltender can put this loss behind him and step it up for the rest of the series.

Game 2 between these teams will take place this Friday, April 16, at 7:00 P.M. ET. It will be the last game in Pittsburgh before the two teams travel to Ottawa for two games.

The Pittsburgh Penguins played their final regular season match up with the Ottawa Senators on Thursday night, falling 4-1; this loss has split their season record 2-2. Interesting enough, each of the four times these teams have met up this season, the score differential was three goals or greater. The Penguins took the early lead, but ended up falling victim to an onslaught of Senator goals throughout the rest of the game.

Only about a minute and a half into the game, Evgeni Malkin put in the opening goal of the game with an assist from Nick Johnson. Johnson has only played four games with the Penguins, in his career, but he has already grabbed a goal and an assist, so far. However, ten minutes into the game, Ottawa managed to tie up the score. Then, less than four minutes later, they took the lead.

The Penguins only remained a goal behind until the fourth minute of the third period, when Ottawa took a two goal lead. With plenty of time left in the game, the Penguins were not down and out. However, in the final minutes, the Penguins pulled their goalie for the one man advantage, but it only resulted in an Empty Net goal to put the Penguins away.

Despite giving up three goals, Marc Andre Fleury didn’t put on a bad performance. Fleury made 24 saves against the Senators, and two of the goals that got past him were one timers off of rebounds. Fleury’s Save Percentage is at now at 90.8%.

The Penguins next game will be against the Detroit Red Wings this Sunday, January 31, at 12:30 P.M. ET. This will be the first of two match ups between these teams.

For what started out as a competitive game, took a complete 180 in the second and third period. Wednesday night, the Pittsburgh Penguins gave the Ottawa Senators a lump of coal for Christmas, taking them down in their 8-2 victory. Evgeni Malkin got his first Hat Trick of the season, while Sidney Crosby managed to add three more points to his record with three assists. The Penguins are still tied with the Devils for that number one spot in the division.

Less than five minutes into the game, Malkin had the first goal during a Power Play. However, in the 13th minute, Ottawa tied the score up. The first period would end 1-1, with the Senators taking 24 shots and the Penguins only taking 9.

The second period was where the scale tipped highly in Pittsburgh’s favor. Only about a minute in, Bill Guerin put in a Power Play goal. During the seventh minute, Ruslan Fedotenko gave the Penguins a two goal lead. About 11 and a half minutes in, Chris Kunitz, who had assisted in Guerin’s goal, had the favor returned. Less than three minutes later, Guerin had his second goal of the game, off another Power Play. It looked like the Senators might be able to make it out of the period without any more goals, but with less than two minutes to play, Malkin got his second goal.

The Senators switched out their goalies for the third period, but it didn’t prove to be any better. Less than two minutes in, Sergei Gonchar made it a 7-1 game. Then, a few minutes later, Malkin got his Hat Trick off an assist from Crosby. Ottawa managed to put one more goal in during the final two minutes, but it did little good other than help save some face.

Marc Andre Fleury played an amazing game! Despite the huge loss for Ottawa, Fleury really had to work for the win, saving 45 shots. He bumped his Save Percentage up to 91.1% with this big win.

The Penguins will get to celebrate the holidays, returning December 27 to take on the Toronto Maple Leafs. The game will take place at 7:00 P.M. ET.
