Sidney Crosby had his second Hat Trick in a week, scoring all three of the Pittsburgh Penguins’ goals in their victory over the Atlanta Thrashers. A big game for the captain, sealing the Pens eighth consecutive victory, tying him for Goal Scoring Leader in the NHL, and putting him on top of the points race.

Only a little more than six minutes into the game, Atlanta took advantage of a Power Play opportunity, putting in the first goal of the game. However, about a minute later, Sid the Kid tied things up with his first goal of the night. Then, four minutes into the second period, Crosby put in his second goal of the game, and his 20th of the season. The Hat Trick came only seconds after the 30 minute mark of the game.

Atlanta closed the gap a little with a goal late in the second period. However, it wasn’t enough for the Thrashers to come back. They only had five shots in the third period.

Marc Andre Fleury put up his seventh consecutive win; it’s hard to believe this is the same goalie who struggled greatly at the start of this season. He made 20 saves against the Thrashers.

The Pens will try to keep the streak burning this Saturday, Dec 4, as they take on the Columbus Blue Jackets. The puck will drop at 7:00 P.M. ET.

It was another successful game for the Pittsburgh Penguins, taking their fifth consecutive game with a win to the Ottawa Senators. Both of their goals may have come from Power Play opportunities, but at least they pulled out the Win. They are now trailing the Philadelphia Flyers by only three points.

The Senators got off to a good start, netting the first goal of the game in the first period. Unfortunately for them, that’d be the last goal they’d have this game. Half way through the second period, Evgeni Malkin tied things up with his Power Play goal; Tyler Kennedy and Sidney Crosby had assists on that. Then, five minutes into the third period, Alex Goligoski scored the game winner, and his fifth goal of the season.

Marc Andre Fleury snagged, yet, another win. A big game with 43 saves, and only a single goal allowed. Fleury has been playing great the past couple of weeks.

Hopefully, the Pens can keep their streak alive when they take on the Calgary Flames Today, at 1:00 P.M. ET.

The team grabbed their tenth win of the season, taking the Vancouver Canucks down with relative ease. Max Talbot even added a Short Hand goal to the mix.

With a little over three minutes left in the first period, Sidney Crosby gave the Pens the lead with his 13th goal of the season. Nearly six minutes into the second period, Talbot put in his Shortie, with an assist from Matt Cooke. Aaron Asham made it 3-0 with his goal in the ninth minute, and his second of the season. About 30 seconds later, the Canucks managed to put their first in, but that was as far as they’re rebuttal would go.

Fleury made 29 saves against Vancouver, only allowing the single goal. With only seven goals allowed in the last four games, Fleury seems to be fighting to maintain that starting position.

The Penguins will take on Carolina Hurricanes this Friday, November 19, at 7:00 P.M. ET.

The Pittsburgh Penguins looked like they had stolen this victory in the final two minutes of the game. Unfortunately, the New York Rangers tied things up less than 30 seconds later. While in Overtime, New York was able to capitalize on a game winner, giving Pittsburgh only a single point.

The Penguins out shot the Rangers 12-5 in the first period, but neither team was able to net anything. About half way through the second period, the Rangers put in the first goal of the game. It was looking like New York might take this thing with a 1-0 victory, but with under three minutes left in the game, Chris Kunitz tied things up, followed by Matt Cooke’s goal only seconds later.

In a matter of seconds, this game went from what looked like a Ranger victory, to what appeared to be a Pens victory. Unfortunately, that’s when New York tied things up again, with a Short Handed goal, sending the game into Extra Time. The Pens only got a single shot off in Overtime, but with 1:22 remaining, their opponents put in the game winner.

Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to get the win this time around. Fleury had 22 saves against the Rangers, giving up three goals.

The Penguins take on the Vancouver Canucks this Wednesday, November 17, at 7:00 P.M. ET.

The Penguins still have some work to do to make up ground in their set back, but there is plenty of season left.

A mere nine shots were exchanged in the first period, with neither team putting one in. Eight minutes into the second period, Pascal Dupuis gave Pittsburgh the lead, followed by a goal from young Defenseman, Alex Goligoski, a few seconds later.

Five and half minutes into the second period, Tampa Bay capitalized on a Power Play opportunity, narrowing the gap. However, Max Talbot re-extended the gap with his unassisted goal during the 12th minute. With nearly three minutes left in the game, Sidney Crosby put in his 11th goal of the season. Deryk Engelland’s goal in the final 1:10, which was also his first of the season, sealed the victory for Pittsburgh.

Fleury didn’t receive much of a test against the Lightning, only receiving 16 shots the entire game. Regardless, his 15 saves gave him and his team their eighth victory of the season.

The Penguins’ next game will be against the Atlanta Thrashers this Saturday, November 13, at 7:00 P.M. ET.

The Pittsburgh Penguins almost came back from the three goal lead they gave up to the Anaheim Ducks, but fell just short. Sidney Crosby managed to give the Pens their only two goals of the game, nearly tying the game before the final horn. Pittsburgh currently holds the middle spot in the Atlantic Division.

After a scoreless first period, the Ducks started off the scoring with a goal in the seventh minute. Within the next seven minutes, they managed to make it a three goal lead. Before the period could come to an end, Crosby took advantage of a Power Play and gave the Pens their first goal of the game. Early in the third period, Crosby put in his second goal, but with about 16 minutes left, the Penguins couldn’t tie things up.

Marc Andre Fleury added his sixth loss of the season. He made a mere 16 saves, giving up three goals to the Ducks. He currently has an 86.1 Save Percentage.

The Penguins are looking for a win against the Phoenix Coyotes this Saturday, November 16, at 9:00 P.M. ET.

To be fair, the Pittsburgh Penguins only held the lead for less than 20 minutes, but at one point, they did have a two goal advantage over the Tampa Bay Lightning. The first period was where the majority of goals took place, despite being the lowest shooting period. Regardless, Pittsburgh still leads the Atlantic Division by a point.

Tampa Bay put in their opening goal less than three minutes into the game. However, an even more impressive feat was the Penguins’ two Short Handed goals in the two minutes following. The first came from Craig Adams, making it his first goal of the season. The second shortie was put in by Matt Cooke, who also assisted the first goal. During the 12th minute, Pascal Dupuis made it 3-1 with his second goal of the season. Adams had an assist in both goals, in addition to the one he put in.

Before the period could come to an end, the Lightning shortened the Pens’ lead with another goal. Little did anyone know, this would also spark the Lightning’s comeback for a win in the remaining two periods. Tampa Bay tied the game up with a Power Play in the second period, and nearly took the lead with a Penalty Shot, but couldn’t put it in. It didn’t matter though, because they took the lead in the third period, followed by an Empty Netter to seal the win.

Marc Andre Fleury accrued his fourth loss for the season, bringing his record to 1-4. He had 26 saves, giving up four of the Pens’ five allowed goals. It’s a tough call to bench your starting goalie, who you won a Stanley Cup with only two years prior, and replace him with a goalie that is nearly 10 years older. However, Brent Johnson has a reverse record of 4-1, with that only loss coming in Overtime; it might be time to give Johnson some more games.

The Pens will have back to back games this weekend, taking on the Philadelphia Flyers on Friday and the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday. Friday’s game will begin at 7:00 P.M. ET.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have pulled off a big win, taking the Montreal Canadiens in Game 5. Now, they have two chances to grab a single win in order to go to advance to Round 3. It wasn’t a very high scoring game, but Pittsburgh held the lead for almost the entire time, putting two past the Montreal goalie.

With nearly a whole period out of the way, Pittsburgh finally put the opening goal in. Kris Letang took advantage of a Power Play, grabbing his fourth goal of the Post Season. Then, nearly ten minutes into the second period, Sergei Gonchar gave the Pens a two goal lead. Pittsburgh held the two goal lead all the way up to final 30 seconds of the game when Montreal put in a Power Play goal. Fortunately, there wasn’t enough time left for them to send the game into Overtime.

Marc Andre Fleury nearly had a Shut Out, but regardless, he got his seventh win of the Post Season. Fleury had 32 saves in the game. This was the first game the Canadiens out shot the Penguins since Game 1, but this time it turned out advantageous for Pittsburgh.

The Penguins can put this away in Game 6, back in Montreal. That game will take place this Monday, May 10, at 7:00 P.M. ET.

After shutting out the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday night, in Montreal, the Pittsburgh Penguins are now up a game in the series. Despite starting out hot at the beginning of the series, Sidney Crosby had another game with no points. Regardless, the Penguins lead the series, 2-1, with one more game in Montreal before returning back to Pittsburgh for Game 5.

A scoreless game up until the third period, it was really anyone’s game until Pascal Dupuis put in an Empty Netter in the final seconds of the game. Evgeni Malkin scored the Pens opening goal in the first 1:16 of the third period, during a Power Play; Sergei Gonchar and Alex Goligoski each had an assist on the play.

Marc Andre Fleury may have only had 18 shots on him, but he had some great saves to keep his opponents scoreless. Fleury marked up his sixth win and first Shut Out of the Playoffs.

Game 4 will take place this Thursday, May 6, at 7:00 P.M. ET.

The Pittsburgh Penguins might have ended up with a blessing in Round 2. Going into the Playoffs as a Fourth Seed, Pittsburgh has emerged in Round 2 as the Highest Seeded team in the Eastern Conference. They are already off to a better start against the Montreal Canadiens than the Washington Capitals, winning Game 1. The only lead Montreal had in the game was after their first goal, and they only held that lead for about four minutes. Another beam of light that came from this game was that Pittsburgh looks to be, vastly, improving on their Power Play, putting in four of their six goals while Montreal served penalty minutes.

Four and a half minutes into the game, the Canadiens put in the opening goal of the series; not a good start to the game. However, the Pens refused to let the eighth seed get in their heads, and about four minutes later, while on a Power Play, Sergei Gonchar tied it up with his first goal of the Post Season. In the 13th minute of the game, Pittsburgh went on the Power Play again, and Jordan Staal took advantage of it, giving the Pens the lead.

Only two and a half minutes into Period 2, Kris Letang snagged, yet another, Power Play goal for Pittsburgh. With under five minutes left in the period, Montreal decreased the difference to a single goal again, but before the period could come to an end, Craig Adams made it 4-2; this was Adams second goal of the Post Season.

Just under three minutes into the third period, Alex Goligoski put in….surprise, surprise….the fourth Power Play goal for Pittsburgh. In the 12th minute, the Canadiens answered back with a Power Play goal of their own, but it made little difference. Bill Guerin put the game away with an Empty Netter, and the Pens went on to start the series with a victory.

Marc Andre Fleury gave up three goals against the Canadiens, but had 28 saves. Other than the first goal, none of the goals he allowed came at very crucial points in the game; the Pens already had a two or more goal lead. Fleury may only have a 89.2 Save Percentage, but he’s got five wins under his belt, and only 11 away from adding a second Stanley Cup victory to his career.

Game 2 between the Pens and Habs will take place this Sunday, May 2, at 2:00 P.M. ET.
