The Pittsburgh Penguins are now on a three game winning streak after taking Monday night’s game against the Florida Panthers. The Pens capitalized on two of their three Power Play opportunities, and Chris Conner scored the game winner mid-way through the third period. Pittsburgh is staying competitive in the Atlantic Division, only four points behind the leading Philadelphia Flyers.

It only took the Penguins four minutes to grab the first goal, taking advantage of a Power Play during its first five seconds; Kris Letang had that opening goal, giving him four for the season. Exactly seven minutes later, Sidney Crosby made it 2-0, with another Power Play goal for Pittsburgh. Late in the period, Florida got their first goal, and a few minutes into the second, they tied things up. Luckily, Conner put in the game winner before things could head to Overtime.

Marc Andre Fleury seems to be back on his game, grabbing his fifth win in his sixth consecutive start. He made 27 saves against the Panthers, only giving up two goals.

The Pens take on the Buffalo Sabres this Wednesday, November 24, at 7:00 P.M. ET.

The Pittsburgh Penguins might have ended up with a blessing in Round 2. Going into the Playoffs as a Fourth Seed, Pittsburgh has emerged in Round 2 as the Highest Seeded team in the Eastern Conference. They are already off to a better start against the Montreal Canadiens than the Washington Capitals, winning Game 1. The only lead Montreal had in the game was after their first goal, and they only held that lead for about four minutes. Another beam of light that came from this game was that Pittsburgh looks to be, vastly, improving on their Power Play, putting in four of their six goals while Montreal served penalty minutes.

Four and a half minutes into the game, the Canadiens put in the opening goal of the series; not a good start to the game. However, the Pens refused to let the eighth seed get in their heads, and about four minutes later, while on a Power Play, Sergei Gonchar tied it up with his first goal of the Post Season. In the 13th minute of the game, Pittsburgh went on the Power Play again, and Jordan Staal took advantage of it, giving the Pens the lead.

Only two and a half minutes into Period 2, Kris Letang snagged, yet another, Power Play goal for Pittsburgh. With under five minutes left in the period, Montreal decreased the difference to a single goal again, but before the period could come to an end, Craig Adams made it 4-2; this was Adams second goal of the Post Season.

Just under three minutes into the third period, Alex Goligoski put in….surprise, surprise….the fourth Power Play goal for Pittsburgh. In the 12th minute, the Canadiens answered back with a Power Play goal of their own, but it made little difference. Bill Guerin put the game away with an Empty Netter, and the Pens went on to start the series with a victory.

Marc Andre Fleury gave up three goals against the Canadiens, but had 28 saves. Other than the first goal, none of the goals he allowed came at very crucial points in the game; the Pens already had a two or more goal lead. Fleury may only have a 89.2 Save Percentage, but he’s got five wins under his belt, and only 11 away from adding a second Stanley Cup victory to his career.

Game 2 between the Pens and Habs will take place this Sunday, May 2, at 2:00 P.M. ET.

After a close Game 1 that resulted in a loss for the Pittsburgh Penguins, they were determined to take Game 2 from the Ottawa Senators. The Penguins defense limited the Senators to only 20 shots in the game, compared to their 31. Sidney Crosby had a goal and an assist in this game, giving him a hand in every Penguins Post Season goal to date, except one; he leads the NHL in Post Season points.

It was very disheartening seeing Ottawa score in the opening 18 seconds of the game. Luckily, it didn’t seem to phase the Penguins, who tied up the score about eight minutes later. Crosby had the tying goal off an assist from Chris Kunitz. The game remained tied all the way up into the final minutes of the third period, when Kris Letang scored the winning goal for the Pens.

Marc Andre Fleury really stepped up his performance in Game 2, making 19 saves and holding the Senators off for the rest of the game after their opening goal. The goalie can be one of the most disheartened when a team scores so quickly, but Fleury kept his head in the game and pulled out the win.

The two teams travel to Ottawa for Game 3, which will take place this Sunday, April 18, at 6:30 P.M. CT.

Saturday night, the Pittsburgh Penguins took on the Buffalo Sabres, who were also at the top of their division. Buffalo put up a good fight, but in the end, after a Shoot Out, Pittsburgh walked away with the win. This was the Penguins’ second consecutive Shoot Out.

In the 15th minute of the first period, Buffalo scored the opening goal. However, only about four minutes later, Chris Kunitz tied up the game with an assist coming from Sidney Crosby. Between the second period, third period, and Over Time, 42 shots were exchanged, but nothing made it’s way into the back of the net. Buffalo started off the Shoot Out, but after two saves and a miss on their end, Kris Letang’s goal for the Penguins ended up winning them the game.

Marc Andre Fleury was in the net, stopping just about all the shots that he came across. He had a total of 31 saves in the game, along with his two during the Shoot Out. Fleury is showing hockey fans why he has that Stanley Cup ring.

The Penguins take on the New Jersey Devils this Monday, December 21 at 7:30 P.M. The Devils are not only Division Rivals, but currently tied with the Penguins for the NHL leader.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have taken down the Philadelphia Flyers, for the second consecutive game. The game wasn’t quite the blow out we witnessed in the previous match up, but after a Shoot Out, the Penguins still managed to take the win. Since Philadelphia is a Division Rival, these wins go a long way, and have managed to put the two teams on opposite ends of the division, with Pittsburgh coming out on top.

Only 1:15 into the game, Philadelphia managed to put a goal in, possibly still working off their frustration from the previous loss. However, only about two and a half minutes later, Pittsburgh answered right back off a Power Play goal. Evgeni Malkin took a shot, which got deflected to Chris Kunitz; Kunitz fought for the puck in front of the net, with it eventually sliding to Bill Guerin, who put in the tying goal.

During the first two minutes of the second period, the Flyers used their Power Play to take the lead again. Once again, the Penguins did not allow them to keep the lead for very long, putting in another tying goal during the ninth minute of the period. This Power Play goal was the work of Sidney Crosby, who picked up the kick over from Kunitz. Crosby is now second in the NHL for Goals Scored, and fourth for Overall Points; he is fighting hard to prove he deserves the Art Ross Trophy this year.

19 Shots were exchanged in the third period, but nobody could put anything in. Even during Over Time, neither team was able to get a goal, sending the game into a Shoot Out. It was a short Shootout, with the Flyers missing their first two shots, while Kris Letang and Crosby each made their shots.

Marc Andre Fleury had another good game, only giving up two goals, while saving 31 shots. Fleury has chalked up an 8-1-1 record in his last ten games, earning a 92.2% Save Percentage.

The Penguins’ next opponent will be the Buffalo Sabres, this Saturday, December 19. The puck will drop at 7:00 P.M. ET. Both teams currently lead their division.

12-3 is an amazing record! The Pittsburgh Penguins now lead the entire NHL in overall points with 24, and a five point lead in their division. The Penguins have had some close calls this season, already having four Shoot Outs, but winning all of them. Not to mention their several third period comebacks. Despite still missing Evgeni Malkin, the teams leading playmaker, the Penguins still pulled out a 4-3 win over the Anaheim Ducks.

Anaheim put in an early goal to start this game off, but early in the second period, Michael Rupp tied it up. Half way through the second period, Kris Letang gave Pittsburgh the lead with a wrist shot through a crowd of players. However, before the period ended, Anaheim tied it again.

Almost eight minutes into the third period, Alex Goligoski made it a 3-2 game with his shot from the point. Not even 20 seconds later, the Ducks tied it up, once again. 18 shots were taken in the third period, between both teams, but in the end, Pittsburgh took the victory with a goal from Pascal Dupuis in the ninth minute.

Marc Andre Fleury added another win to his record, now tied for first in the NHL in regards to wins attributed to a goalie. However, his competition, Craig Anderson from the Colorado Avalanche, has played three more games than Fleury, giving him an advantage. Fleury made 26 saves against the Ducks, giving up one goal each period.

The Penguins go up against another California team, the Los Angeles Kings, this Thursday, November 5, at 10:30 P.M.

The Pittsburgh Penguins, upon returning home for the third game of the second round, defeated the Washington Capitals 3-2 in Over Time. The Penguins almost clinched the win in regular time, but had to take the game into extra time when the Captials put in a last minute goal. The record for this series not stands at 2-1 with Washington up a game. Luckily, Pittsburgh gets to play one more game at home before returning to Washington.

Washington started the scoring off early with a goal within the first two minutes of play. As disheartening as it was, the Penguins held the Capitals off for the rest of the period. About half way through the second period Ruslan Fedotenko put in his second goal of the playoffs. The game remained tied up until the 15th minute of the third period when Evgeni Malkin added his fifth goal of the playoffs. This looked like it was going to be the game winning goal, but with less than two minutes to go, Washington tied the game up again. The game was forced into an Over Time, which lasted over 11 minutes before Kris Letang knocked in the game winning goal for the Penguins.

Marc-Andre Fleury played a great game, saving 21 shots. One of the goals that got past him barely made it in after sliding off the seat of his pants. The Pittsburgh offense was able to take 42 shots on the Capital's goalie.

Game 4 between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals will take place this Friday, May 8 at 7:00 Eastern Time.
