Evgeni Malkin Wins the Art Ross Trophy for Being League Scoring Champion


Evgeni Malkin was crowned the NHL League Scoring Champion on Saturday night after the Pittsburgh Penguin's regular season came to a close.  Malkin lead the league with 113 points; 35 goals and 78 assists.  He also lead with assists, which was a large reason he ranked number one overall.  

It's no surprise he is the team's Alternate Captain.  Malkin can hopefully bring this success to the playoffs.

Learn Russian Cuisine with Evgeni Malkin


We all know the Pittsburgh Penguins that play their hearts out on the ice rink.  You are probably even familiar with Evgeni Malkin, who currently leads the NHL in points, due to his high assist percentage.  However, few know the Evgeni Malkin that cooks Russian food.  

As a treat for Penguins fans, the team likes to capture video of themselves outside of the arena, taking place in non-hockey related activities.  These videos help the fans get to know the players behind the gear.  

In this video, Evgeni Malkin cooks up some Pierogies with help from his lovely assistant...well, it's actually more of her doing the cooking.  It offers comedic moments as well as some talk about this years MVP pick; there is even a surprise guest at the end.

Evgeni Malkin Named Second Star of the Week in NHL


Is this really any surprise?  It wasn't for me.  Evgeni Malkin led the league in scoring for the week with eight points (three goals, five assists) in three games.   Malkin leads the NHL in assists (72) and points (105) and needs two points to surpass his single-season high of 106 set in 2007-08.

He currently leads the Pittsburgh Penguins with 33 goals.  It's hard to believe he is only 22 years old!

ESPN.com Ranks Pens No. 1 in East


n its summer NHL “power rankings,” espn.com ranks the Pittsburgh Penguins as the No. 1 team in the Eastern Conference.

The website’s national hockey writer, Scott Burnside, rates the Penguins, Montreal, Philadelphia, the New York Rangers and Washington as the top five teams in the East, with the Penguins getting the nod.

“Never mind the absence of Marian Hossa, Ryan Malone, Jarkko Ruutu and Georges Laraque,” Burnside writes. “The Penguins still have the most formidable lineup down the middle of any team in the NHL, with Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Jordan Staal, plus an emerging elite netminder in Marc-Andre Fleury.”

Pens Sign Malkin To 5-Year Extension


Malkin's extension will pay him $8.7 million annually over five years starting with the 2009-10 season. The deal is a near-carbon copy of the extension signed last summer by teammate Sidney Crosby.

Penguins Just One Win Away From the Stanley Cup finals


Ryan Whitney and Marian Hossa scored less than 3 minutes apart in the first period, and the Penguins held the Philadelphia Flyers to 18 shots in a 4-1 victory that gave Pittsburgh a 3-0 lead in the Eastern Conference finals.

The Penguins are the first team since the 1983 Edmonton Oilers to win 11 of their first 12 games in a playoff year.

The last time there were sweeps in the conference finals was 1992 when Pittsburgh and Chicago did it.

Pittsburgh is 9-0 in the playoffs when scoring first.

Sidney Crosby leads the NHL playoffs with 19 points, 4 goal & 15 assists. Evgeni Malkin is tied for second with 18 points, 8 goals & 10 assists.
