Pittsburgh Penguins Close Out Their Season

Well, it wasn’t quite the ending they had hoped for. Coming off a Stanley Cup Championship from last year, the Pittsburgh Penguins were heading for a repeat. They had eliminated the Ottawa Senators in six games, and thanks to the Washington Capitals failing to clear the first round, they were going up against the eighth seed. Unfortunately, that eighth seed, the Montreal Canadiens, was too much for the Penguins.

The Penguins had an opportunity to take the Canadiens in Game 6, in Montreal, but could not pull the trigger. Game 7 came back to Pittsburgh, but Montreal pulled off the only consecutive win of the series, finishing off the Pens successful season.

Overall, the Penguins had a great season! They may not have brought home the Cup again, but you can’t expect to win it every year. Pittsburgh finished off the first month of their regular season with an 11-3 record, riding high on the leaderboard. As the season went on, there were ups and downs, finishing up with an end of the season battle between the New Jersey Devils for the Atlantic Division Leader position.

Many players had outstanding seasons, including Captain Sidney Crosby. Crosby had, arguably, one of the best season’s of his NHL career. He fell eleven points short of his NHL Career high on points, but he put in 12 more goals than his highest season. Finishing the season with 109 points, he tied for second place with Alexander Ovechkin, coming just three points short of the leader. Then, in Post Season, he led the leaderboard up until the final games against the Montreal Canadiens; the Habs managed to shut him down in ways the Senators could not.

Congrats to the Penguins on a Great Season! We will all anxiously
wait to see what the Pens bring to the table next season.
