The Pittsburgh Penguins came close to pulling out the win against the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday night, taking the game into Overtime. Unfortunately, Carolina put an early Sudden Death goal in, making them 2-1 in this season’s series. However, the Penguins still managed to walk away with a point, and still maintain a four point lead in the Atlantic Division.

It only took Jordan Staal a minute and four seconds to score the opening goal for Pittsburgh off an assist from Pascal Dupuis. About four and a half minutes later, Bill Guerin made it a two goal lead during a Penguins Power Play. Unfortunately, before the halfway point of the period, Carolina came back with two of their own, tying the game.

Two minutes into the second period, Staal’s older brother, Eric, gave the Hurricanes their first lead of the game. Luckily, only about four minutes later, Matt Cooke put in his 13th goal of the season, off another assist from Dupuis. The second half of this game had no goals, sending the game into Extra Time. Sadly, Carolina put in the game winning goal after only 23 seconds.

Brent Johnson was in charge of the Penguins net for this game. Johnson had 17 saves, giving up four goals, including the Overtime goal. His season record is now 9-5-1.

The Penguins next game will be a big one, taking on the New Jersey Devils. The Devils are the team that is currently four points behind the Penguins in the division. That game will take place Tonight, March 12, at 7:00 P.M. ET.
