Final Stretch for the Penguins
Barring some strange mishap, the Pittsburgh Penguins are pretty much a shoe in for the 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
With only ten games left for the Penguins in the Regular Season, Pittsburgh currently leads the Atlantic Division with 90 points. The only real threat the Penguins have for clinching the Division is the New Jersey Devils, who currently trail by two points, but still have a game in hand.
Luckily, the Penguins have a somewhat easy last stretch of the schedule, minus the two games they play against the Washington Capitals, who are the current NHL point leaders. Six of those ten games are against teams that currently fall below the Playoff threshold, and the final two are teams that barely hold a Playoff seed, at the moment.
On top of all this good news, Sidney Crosby still holds a chance at grabbing that Art Ross Trophy. Currently third in the NHL, Crosby’s 45 goals and 43 assists puts him only nine points behind Alexander Ovechkin (the current leader). Another Hat Trick game could really help to close the gap.
The Penguins had an amazing start to their season, but around the halfway point, they started struggling a little. Now that they’re back around the top, hopefully they can pull out a great ending and an even more fabulous performance in the Playoffs.
