Sidney Crosby has netted his first 40 goal season since being with the Pittsburgh Penguins; during his debut season, he came close with 39 goals. Crosby had the Penguins only two goals in the game, including the goal that sent the game into Overtime; unfortunately, the New York Rangers pulled out the win in Overtime. Pittsburgh is only two points behind the New Jersey Devils in the Atlantic Division.
It took Crosby less than seven minutes to put the Penguins up on the board off an assist from Bill Guerin. Pittsburgh held the lead until a minute and a half into the second period when New York tied the score up; before the tenth minute of the period, the Rangers took the lead. Luckily, less than four minutes into the final period, Crosby scored off a Pittsburgh Power Play, tying the game and giving him his 41st goal of the season. Unfortunately, the Rangers scored during the first 1:02 into Overtime, leaving the Penguins with a single point.
Brent Johnson had his first start in goal since January 24. He did fairly well, making 20 saves and giving up two goals in the second period before being switched out with Marc Andre Fleury. During Fleury’s time in the game, he made 16 saves, and the only goal he gave up was the game winning goal in Overtime.
The Pittsburgh Penguins final game before the Olympic break will be their first, and only, Regular Season game against the Nashville Predators. That game will take place Sunday, February 14, at 1:00 P.M. ET.
