The Pittsburgh Penguins are now only a single point behind the New Jersey Devils after defeating the New York Islanders on Wednesday night. This was the first game the Penguins had since their weather mayhem last weekend, leading into their game against the Washington Capitals. Pittsburgh has two more games before taking a two week break for the 2010 Winter Olympics, where several of theirs players are competing.

The Penguins were out-shot in the first period, but neither team ended up putting anything in. Ten and a half minutes into the second period, Chris Kunitz put in his seventh goal of the season, off an assist from Evgeni Malkin. Then, before the period came to a close, Malkin had a goal of his own, giving the Penguins a two goal lead. About half way through the third period, New York put in their first goal, but Kunitz widened the gap again, with a little over five minutes remaining in the game. This was Kunitz’s fist multiple goal game of the season.

Marc Andre Fleury got his 29th win of the season after making 37 stops against the Islanders; this was, arguably, one of Fleury’s best games in a while. His Save Percentage for the season is currently at 90.8%.

The Penguins go up against their Division Rivals, the New York Rangers, this Friday, February 12, at 7:30 P.M. ET. The Rangers are currently fourth in the division.
