Sidney Crosby continues to show the world why he is the Captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Monday night, the Penguins rallied against the Buffalo Sabres to pull out their 35th win of the season. Crosby grabbed a Hat Trick, with his final goal being the game winning goal. Considering the Sabres are currently a Division Leader, this has got to boost spirits for the Pittsburgh squad. The Penguins are only trailing the New Jersey Devils by a single point in the Atlantic Division.

Less than a minute into this game, Mark Letestu gave the Penguins an early lead off an assist from Tyler Kennedy; this was only Letestu’s fifth NHL game of his career. With all the injuries this season, Pittsburgh fans have really gotten a look at some of the amazing, young talent the Penguin’s organization has under its sleeve. Unfortunately, during the fifth minute of the game, Buffalo tied the score up. Another goal, a minute later, gave the Sabres the lead, followed by a third consecutive goal during the seventh minute of the second period. The Penguins may have been the first to strike, but in the matter of about 22 minutes, Buffalo had taken a two goal lead.

Luckily, there was still a second half of this game to be played, and the Penguins refused to go down without a fight. With a little over nine minutes left in the second period, Crosby closed the gap a little with a Power Play goal. Less than four minutes later, Jordan Staal tied the game up with his 14th goal of the season, off Evgeni Malkin’s 38th assist of the season. Then, with under three minutes left in the period, Crosby had an unassisted goal to give Pittsburgh the lead, and give him his second goal of the game. A minute and some change was all that remained in the second period when Crosby got his third Hat Trick of the season.

The Sabres fought hard in that final period, determined to take back the game that appeared to be in the bag at one point. The Sabres put in a Power Play goal during the final three minutes of the game, but Pittsburgh held them to that single goal, grabbing the victory. Crosby is now tied for leading goal scorer in the NHL, and only trails the NHL points leader by seven points.

Marc Andre Fleury had a tough time during the first half of the game, but he really stepped up his game during the second half, snagging his 28th win of the season. Fleury saved 30 of the Sabres shots.

The Penguins have a couple of days off before taking on the Montreal Canadiens this Saturday, February 6. The game will begin at 2:00 P.M. ET.
