Monday night, the Pittsburgh Penguins took down Division Rivals, the New York Rangers. The Penguins only scored one goal during the opening two periods, but the third period is where they really came out strong. Sidney Crosby picked up two more points from two assists, making him tied for third place for most points in the NHL. Evgeni Malkin, who has been trailing this season, is beginning to really make his upward trend on the list; he is currently in 13th place.

Less than three minutes into the game, Chris Conner, who was called up for his first game in over two months, scored his first goal of the season. The Penguins held the one goal lead until the 13th minute of the second period when the Rangers tied things up. 20 shots were exchanged that second period, but no other goals were scored. Then, during the ninth minute of the third period, New York took the lead for the first time in the game.

Luckily, New York did not hold the lead very long, because only about 30 seconds later, Malkin took advantage of a Power Play and tied the game up, again. Exactly a minute after, Conner put in his second goal of the game, and the season, giving Pittsburgh the lead one last time. Conner is only one goal away from tying his total from last season, when he played with the Dallas Stars. With under a minute left in the game, Pascal Dupuis shot the puck into an Empty Net, clinching the win for the Penguins.

Marc Andre Fleury was between the poles again, after missing four games due to an injured finger. Fleury played a great game, making 28 saves and only giving up the two goals. His record for the season is now 26-14-1.

The Penguins will return to Mellon Arena for the next three games, starting off with the Ottawa Senators this Thursday, January 28. The puck will drop at 7:00 P.M. ET.
