The Pittsburgh Penguins played their final regular season match up with the Ottawa Senators on Thursday night, falling 4-1; this loss has split their season record 2-2. Interesting enough, each of the four times these teams have met up this season, the score differential was three goals or greater. The Penguins took the early lead, but ended up falling victim to an onslaught of Senator goals throughout the rest of the game.

Only about a minute and a half into the game, Evgeni Malkin put in the opening goal of the game with an assist from Nick Johnson. Johnson has only played four games with the Penguins, in his career, but he has already grabbed a goal and an assist, so far. However, ten minutes into the game, Ottawa managed to tie up the score. Then, less than four minutes later, they took the lead.

The Penguins only remained a goal behind until the fourth minute of the third period, when Ottawa took a two goal lead. With plenty of time left in the game, the Penguins were not down and out. However, in the final minutes, the Penguins pulled their goalie for the one man advantage, but it only resulted in an Empty Net goal to put the Penguins away.

Despite giving up three goals, Marc Andre Fleury didn’t put on a bad performance. Fleury made 24 saves against the Senators, and two of the goals that got past him were one timers off of rebounds. Fleury’s Save Percentage is at now at 90.8%.

The Penguins next game will be against the Detroit Red Wings this Sunday, January 31, at 12:30 P.M. ET. This will be the first of two match ups between these teams.
