Having a night off in between their two games, the Pittsburgh Penguins traveled to New York where they, once again, defeated the Rangers. In the New York Rangers defense, they managed to hold the Penguins to only five goals this time, and Sidney Crosby only walked away with two goals; instead, Michael Rupp got the Hat Trick this game. The Penguins now have a three point lead over the New Jersey Devils, while the other three teams in the Atlantic Division (Flyers, Rangers, Islanders), are all tied at the bottom with 27 points.
Once again, New York put in the opening goal of the game, but this time it took until the second period. Crosby answered back, only 11 seconds later, tying the game up. A few minutes after that, Michael Rupp had his first goal of the game, with an assist coming from Jordan Staal, whose brother is on the Ranger squad. The Penguins held the lead until the final minutes of the second period when New York tied it at two, during a Power Play.
At this point, the Rangers had already put up a much better performance than the previous game; they still had a chance to pull out a win. However, the Penguins crushed those hopes with three more goals in the third period.
About half way through the period, Rupp had an unassisted goal, making it his second of the night. A few minutes after that, Crosby had his second goal of the game, putting him and Rupp in prime position for a Hat Trick. The Rangers pulled their goalie in the final minutes of the game, giving Rupp the opportunity he needed to get his Hat Trick in the final 1:40 of play.
Marc Andre Fleury put on a better performance also, making more saves and giving up one less goal than the previous game. Fleury walked away with 29 saves throughout the game, bumping his save percentage up to 90.4%. Fleury is now tied for first in wins for a goalie.
The Penguins next game will be this Thursday, December 3 at 7:30 P.M. ET. They will be taking on the Colorado Avalanche. The Avalanche's goalie, Craig Anderson, currently leads the NHL in saves.
