Monday night, the Pittsburgh Penguins, with Jordan Staal, went up against the Carolina Hurricanes, with Eric Staal. The Penguins fell behind the Hurricanes early in the game, but started making a quick comeback in the second period. Unfortunately, they weren’t able to finish it off, taking their second consecutive loss.

The Penguins took ten shots in the opening period, but couldn’t put anything in.  Unfortunately, the Hurricanes did not have this issue, putting two goals in to give them an early lead.  About two and a half minutes into the second period, Carolina took a three goal lead on Pittsburgh.

A few minutes after the three goal deficit occurred, the Penguins got their first goal of the game; Sidney Crosby got his 20th goal of the season off an assist from Bill Guerin.  Only 49 seconds later, Michael Rupp emerged from heavy traffic, recovering Pascal Dupuis’s deflected shot, and putting it in.  Only one goal behind, the Penguins had more than half a game to finish their comeback.  Unfortunately, they were unable to, taking the loss to the Hurricanes.

Marc Andre Fleury had a tough first two periods, giving up the two goals in the first period and one goal in the second, with only 15 shots on him.  However, he really did his job in the third period, saving all six shots; however, the offense couldn’t manage to get the tying goal in.  Fleury had 18 saves throughout the game.

The Penguins will take on the Montreal Canadiens this Thursday, December 10, at 7:30 P.M. ET.  The first two games between these teams, this season, have ended in victories for the Penguins.
