The Pittsburgh Penguins seem to be getting their stride back, chalking up their third consecutive win after defeating the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday night. The Penguins led the entire game, giving up their only goal in the third period. They continue to lead the Atlantic Division with 34 points, holding a three point lead over the New Jersey Devils.
Half way through the first period, Sidney Crosby got his 12th goal of the season, coming off an assist from Max Talbot, who has recently rejoined the team after recovering from an injury. Early in the second period, Bill Guerin gave the Penguins a two goal lead, while Evgeni Malkin got his 16th assist of the season. In the final minutes of the second period, Sergei Gonchar put in Pittsburgh’s third goal off a quick pass from Crosby.
The Canadiens finally got up on the board about half way through the third period. However, the Penguins limited them to only four shots in the whole period. The single goal wasn’t enough and Pittsburgh ended up pulling out the win.
Marc Andre Fleury had a fairly easy night in net, only having 18 saves the whole game. However, these saves were crucial to the Penguins victory. Fleury has been going through a minor rough patch recently, but he seems to be slowly turning things around.
The Penguins next game will be against the New York Islanders this Friday, November 27 at 2:00 P.M. ET. The Islanders, also in the Atlantic Division, sit at the bottom, nine points behind Pittsburgh.
