The Pittsburgh Penguins just continue adding wins to their record early in the season, now 5-1 after last night’s win against the Ottawa Senators. The Penguins are currently tied with the New York Rangers for first in the division.

The Senators put up the first points late in the first period, but the Penguins came back less than a minute later with a goal from Bill Guerin.  About six minutes into the second period, Tyler Kennedy took a pass from Jay McKee and slipped a wrist shot past Ottawa’s goalie.  Before the end of the second period, Kennedy put another one in, this time off a long shot spurred from his breakaway.  Already up 3-1, the Penguins had a pretty good lead, but Jordan Staal added one more in the third period to give Pittsburgh 4 goals.  Staal was in the right place at the right time, picking up a rebound from Michael Rupp’s deflected shot.

Despite the low score from the Senators, Marc Andre Fleury was definitely tested in the Penguins net.  Fleury managed to save 30 shots, holding off Ottawa to a single goal.

The Pittsburgh Penguins will try to keep their streak alive as they take on the Carolina Hurricanes this Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 7:00 P.M. ET.
