The Pittsburgh Penguins showed why they are the Stanley Cup Champs on Saturday night as they pulled out a 5-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Penguins took an early lead with a goal from Matt Cooke, who swooped in and took a short pass from Tyler Kennedy before smashing it into the back of the net. A couple of minutes later, Pittsburgh capitalized on a Power Play with a goal from Sergei Gonchar, making it a 2-0 game.
The Maple Leafs finally put a goal on the board early in the second period, but the one goal deficit didn't last long. Sidney Crosby scored off a rebound from Evgeni Malkin's shot about 30 seconds later. Towards the end of the period, the Duo did it again, with another Crosby goal off a Malkin assist. The Penguins now had a 4-1 lead on the Maple Leafs.
Toronto managed to put another goal in early in the third period, but it wasn't enough. Especially after Jordan Staal got a fifth goal from Malkin's quick pass from behind the net. The Penguins took advantage of their Power Plays and emerged the winners, once again.
Despite the score difference, Toronto came out tough and had some good shots. Marc-Andre Fleury made some amazing saves and ended up with a total of 18 saves in the game.
