Even with the absence of, recently injured Alternate Captain, Evgeni Malkin, the Pittsburgh Penguins managed to pull out a win against the Columbus Blue Jackets, making a last minute comeback. The Blue Jackets, one of the top teams in the Central Division, had the lead for the majority of the game, but lost it in a Shoot Out.
Columbus put the first goal of the game in during the final minutes of the first period, followed by a second goal in the first minutes of the second period. Chris Kunitz finally put Pittsburgh on the board about half way through the second period. However, before the end of the period, the Blue Jackets got their third goal of the game.
Trailing by two goals in the third period, the Penguins looked like they were going to take their third loss of the season. With less than three minutes to play, Ruslan Fedotenko made it a one goal difference. Only about 40 seconds later, Alex Goligoski tied up the game with his fifth goal of the season, assisted by "Sid the Kid." After a scoreless Over Time, the game ended up in a Shoot Out where Crosby put it right between the legs of the Columbus goalie, winning the game for Pittsburgh. This was Crosby's third winning Shoot Out goal this season.
Marc Andre Fleury had the night off while Brent Johnson guarded between the poles. Johnson has started several times for the Penguins, grabbing his second win of the season with 29 saves. It's obvious that Johnson isn't quite up to the level that Fleury is, but he is definitely a great back-up goalie for the team.
The Penguins play a Halloween game tonight, at home, against the Minnesota Wild at 7:30 P.M. ET. This is bad news for the Wild, who are yet to win a game on the road this season, losing eight already.
