Pittsburgh Steelers Game Comes Down to Field Goals
Steelers- 14 Bears- 17
The Super Bowl Champs almost walked away victorious against the Chicago Bears, but the absence of Troy Polamalu and the crummy weather conditions aided in a loss for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Ben Roethlisberger and the rest of the Steelers offense had some great drives down the field, but were held to two Touchdowns. This, along with two missed Field Goal attempts, left the Steelers to return back to Pittsburgh with a 1-1 record.
The Steelers started off the scoring in the first period with a 1 yard pass from Roethlisberger to Matt Spaeth. In the second quarter, Roethlisberger threw an interception, but the Bears were unable to do anything with the drive. In the final moments of the first half, the Bears scored a Touchdown to tie up the game at 7.
The Steelers were able to put up another Touchdown in the third quarter, taking the lead again. Roethlisberger made a two yard run into the End Zone. Early in the fourth quarter, Jeff Reed attempted a 38 yard Field Goal, but was unsuccessful. At this point, the cold rain was coming down pretty hard and the ball and field were getting pretty slick. The Bears made a drive down the field and scored another Touchdown to tie up the game at 14. With over six minutes left in the game, there was plenty of time for Big Ben to take the team down the field and score the winning Touchdown. They made it down to Chicago's 25 yard line before they had to put the game in Reed's hands. Another unsuccessful kick gave the Bears control of the ball, and after a quick drive down the field, the Bears kicked in the winning Field Goal.
Overall, Roethlisberger only had a mediocre day. He did have the Touchdown pass and the run in for a Touchdown, but he only passed for 221 yards, completed 23 of his 35 passes, and had that interception. Hopefully, he will have a better game against the Bengals in Cincinnati next week.
