The Pittsburgh Penguins Sweep the Carolina Hurricanes
The Pittsburgh Penguins have done it! They are the 2009 Eastern Conference Champs! After sweeping the Carolina Hurricanes in the Third Round series, the Penguins are moving on to the Stanley Cup to either play the Chicago Blackhawks or the Detroit Red Wings.
The Hurricanes came out strong at the beginning of this game, determined not to get swept. They put a goal in during the first two minutes of play; however, this would end up being the only goal they would put in all game. Ruslan Fedotenko tied it up a few minutes later followed by a goal from Maxime Talbot in the final two minutes of the first period, putting the Penguins ahead. Bill Guerin tapped in a goal from an outstanding pass from Sidney Crosby. Pittsburgh held Carolina off for the rest of the game, adding one more from Craig Adams into an empty net. The Penguins took the series from this 4-1 win.
Marc-Andre Fleury was definitely the savior of this game. Fleury made some absolutely amazing saves, giving his team the opportunity to sweep the Hurricanes. Overall, Fleury made 30 saves and only let one shot get past him. Now Fleury will really get to display his skills in the Stanley Cup.
The Penguins get a few days to rest while they wait for the Chicago Blackhawks and the Detroit Red Wings to finish up their series. Currently, the Red Wings lead 3-1. The Penguins lost to the Red Wings in the Stanley Cup last year.
