Pittsburgh Penguins Advance to Second Round of Playoffs

After being shut out in a tough loss to the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday, the Pittsburgh Penguins snagged the win and their chance to advance to round two of the playoffs.  It was not only just a win, but an amazing comeback.  Hopefully, the Penguins will be able to display this same great skill when facing their second round opponent, who is yet to be determined.  

The game got off to a really bad start for the Penguins.  By the fourth minute in the second period, the Flyers already had three points (two from the first period and one from the second).  It was appearing to be Deja Vu from the previous game.  Only 30 seconds after Philadelphia made their third goal, Ruslan Fedotenko saved Pittsburgh from being shut out again.  The score was now 3-1.

Less than two minutes later, Mark Eaton added another goal for the Penguins.  Sidney Crosby added the tying goal for the Penguins in the final minutes of the second period, giving him his third goal for the playoffs.  Early in the third period, Alternate Captain Sergei Gonchar put in the winning goal for Pittsburgh.  The Penguins held off the Flyers for the rest of the game; Sidney Crosby was even able to add one more goal in the final seconds of the game when Philadelphia traded out their goalie for another forward.  The final score was 5-3.

The Penguins most aggressive period was definitely the second period.  Not only did they manage to make three goals in the second period, but they took 20 shots, more than doubling the Flyers.  Marc-Andre Fleury had a tough time during the first half of the game, but he did much better for the second half.  Overall, Fleury managed to stop 22 shots.

The Pittsburgh Penguins will get a few days of rest as they wait to see who their next opponent will be.
